Hello and welcome. This is my first update for a few months. Earlier this year I had taken care of some caterpillars to grow them into butterflies. At Christmas my Godmother gave me a butterfly garden and in the spring we sent away for the caterpillars. They came in a jar like this (above) and were very very tiny at first. The jar comes with caterpillar food and every single day the five caterpillars got a lot bigger.
After a couple of weeks of growing they went to the top of the jar, hung down and turned into chrysalises. Then we had to transfer them into the butterfly garden and wait. You can just see them in the middle of this picture.
After about a week the chrysalises hatched into Painted Lady butterflies, except for one that didn't make it.
This is a Launch of the Butterflies! One morning before school we took them outside to let them go.
This is one of the butterflies on Daddy's finger - they didn't want to fly out so he had to persuade them.
And here is one of the butterflies - free!
Bye bye.
How cool! I want to grow butterflies; it looks like such fun. Did you name any of them at all?
ReplyDeleteNo but thanks for the idea. I can't now they've all flown off!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful record of the life of a butterfly - good enough for a wildlife mag.
ReplyDeleteWell done Jamie!
